Pregnant and parenting moms in need are in our parishes and our neighborhoods. As Pope Francis reminds us, our parishes need to be “islands of mercy in the midst of a sea of indifference.” Everyone in the parish community should know where to refer a pregnant woman in need.
The 25th anniversary of Evangelium Vitae gave us a wonderful opportunity to begin to assess, expand, and communicate resources to pregnant moms and families in need. St. Bernard’s parish, through the Prolife Committee answered the invitation, through the support of their bishop and pastor, to join this nationwide effort entitled, Walking with Moms in Need.
St. Bernard’s Respect Life Committee has developed a resource guide for women with difficult pregnancies. Of course, a pregnancy that is “difficult” might be so for any of a variety of reasons. The resource guide attempts to address different challenges related to a difficult pregnancy (e.g., sexual assault, domestic violence, homelessness, etc.). There are also resources for Moms (and families) who have given birth and are on the parenting journey.
Parishioners and visitors are invited to review this resource guide and keep it at home for future reference for family members, relatives, friends or neighbors.
Printed copies are also available at the church doors.
